Camp Resort Review | Dimalachite River Lodge

We’re on a mission to explore as many of the Vaal River camping resorts as we can fit into our schedule, and our most recent camping weekend was spent at Dimalachite River Lodge. This resort can be found just outside of Parys in the Free State, right next to the river, which means it’s a fisherman’s and birders paradise.

We booked one of the river stands as my other half is keen on weekend fishing and we found the stands to be spacious and level. Each stand has its own power supply and water tap, with large trees along the edge of the camp sites. The stands are covered in grass with the borders between the stands clearly demarcated.

As far as fun activities are concerned, you’ll find all the regulars at Dimalachite – large swimming pool, a playground area for the kids and a put-put course. They also have a paintball shooting range and you can book a river rafting excursion at the resort’s reception. There are quite a few species of game on the resort and you can also book sunrise and sunset game drives.

The ablution facilities were very basic but neat and clean, which far outweighs anything else. We never went without warm water and the ablution blocks were within a short walking distance from our campsite. Dimalachite also have a few chalets, apartments and lodges available, in case camping isn’t your thing.

We really enjoyed our stay at Dimalachite, it was peaceful and quiet, which is what we are after when we go camping. The camping rates were very reasonable and the resort is also available for team building outings and school camps. We can recommend this resort wholeheartedly…
