We recently did a weekend camp at Soetdoring Vakansieplaas, just outside of Vereeniging in Gauteng. It was less than an half hour’s drive from our house and we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived there. It’s a true Bosveld experience literally 15 minutes from the busy town centre and it’s the perfect weekend getaway.
The camp was not fully booked during the weekend we stayed there but I think it can get pretty full during holidays and long weekends. They offer entertainment programs for their visitors during the holidays as well as a 4×4 track and some game viewing.
Their camp sites are pretty standard but nice and spacious, and although they do provide water and power points, it’s not dedicated to each stand so you have choose wisely when you get to the camp site. They have paved blocks for your tents and the rest of the camp ground is red sand and gravel. Overall we were impressed with how neat the camp ground is in general. Luckily loadshedding won’t be an issue if you camp at Soetdoring as they have a generator on standby in case the power goes out. They have a lovely swimming pool with heated water and a large play area for the youngsters. The ablution block is functional and kept in an impeccable condition so it is a pleasure to use. Soetdoring also have a little shop on the premises where you can buy the necessities. Other entertainment on offer are hiking trails, game drives and a giant chess board. We can recommend Soetdoring for your next camping weekend, we really enjoyed our stay there and would love to go back there sometime soon.
