Camp Resort Review | RiverRun Resort Block B

We are fortunate enough to live fairly close to the Vaal River and there are quite a few resorts in the Parys area that’s been on our have-to-camp-there list. We’ve already visited RiverRun Resort, Umfula and Dimalachite (you can read our reviews by clicking on the links) and we decided to go back to RiverRun Resort near Viljoenskroon in the Free State, when a friend invited us for a birthday camping weekend.

This was our second visit to this resort but this time we opted for the quieter camp sites in their Block B riverfront stands area. Our family are also keen fishermen so we wanted to camp at sites where’s little to no trees or shrubs obstructing the access to the river, which were the case at Block A. We were allocated stands 11 and 12 and we were pleasantly impressed with these two sites. It’s the perfect sites for fishing as you have your own little island from where you can cast your line.

The stands itself comprise of a paved block where you can set-up camp, with your own power point and a shared water tap. The stands are all grassed and you can see that the owners are putting in a lot of effort in keeping the camp sites green and lush. We were fortunate to have the camp block to ourselves during our stay but even if the camp sites were fully booked I’m quite sure that it would still be a very comfortable area to stand in.

Block B also has its own dedicated ablution block which designed in such a way that it has a very rustic feel to it but the amenities in still modern and new. They used a lot of wooden slats and corrugated steel sheeting to achieve the rustic look and I have to say it was really comfortable to use.

This area is quite some distance away from the swimming pools and the entertainment areas but we took our kids bicycles along and they cycled to and from the swimming pools every morning. Overall, it was really a lovely camp site to visit and we’ll definitely make a plan to come visit stand no 12 again…
